Graduation Information

All degree candidates
Review the graduation information available on the TCU Graduate Studies home page (www.graduate.tcu.edu) as well as on the TCU Registrar’s home page (www.reg.tcu.edu).
Consult with your departmental graduate program director and your advisor to make sure you will have fulfilled all degree requirements at the time of graduation.
File an Intent to Graduate early in your last semester with the College of Science and Engineering Dean’s Office. Your transcript will be reviewed and your intent will be forwarded to the Registrar’s Office provided no issues are identified. We will contact your graduate director with any possible questions.
If you for whatever reason decide not to graduate in the semester for which you have filed an intent to graduate please file a Cancel Intent to Graduate form with the College of Science and Engineering Dean’s Office. Note that you need to re-file an Intent to Graduate for the new graduation date.
File a Commencement Information Sheet with the College of Science and Engineering Dean’s Office.
M.S. and Ph.D. degree candidates
If you are in an MS program requiring a thesis or in a PhD program there are a number of additional steps to take before you can graduate.
Thesis/Dissertation writing: Please review the College of Science and Engineering Manual for the Preparation of Theses and Dissertations.
Thesis/Dissertation submission: The University no longer accepts the submission of paper copies of your thesis. The final version of your document is required to be submitted in two electronic formats, as a PDF file as well as in its native format (e.g. Word). For details on this process see the TCU Library Online Submission Guideline page.
There is a fee associated with the required archiving and publishing of your thesis or dissertation by UMI (Proquest). Bring the Thesis/Dissertation Publishing form to the financial services office for payment.
To expedite the reporting of your final thesis or dissertation grade request that your graduate advisor process the Thesis/Dissertation Grade Report form (available for faculty to download here).
If you are a PhD candidate you are required to complete and submit to the College of Science and Engineering Dean’s Office the Survey of Earned Doctorates.
Refer to the Graduation Checklist to ensure that you have completed all the necessary paperwork.

SED: For Ph.D. candidates only
The Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) is one of the forms required for graduation. Beginning with the Spring 2012 Semester we will no longer be accepting hard copies; instead students are required to submit their survey online. See the SED general information and privacy broschures for more information about SED.
We appreciate your answering all the questions you can, but you may submit the survey with some answers left blank if you cannot locate or choose not to share any piece of information.
Please see the graduation deadlines document above for last date of submission of the SED.

Note: Once you complete the survey, and email notification screen will allow you to enter up to two e-mail addresses where you would like the notification of completion to be sent. You should forward the completion notification to m.rittby@tcu.edu. Your final approval for graduation will not be processed unless this notification is sent. |
